About This Game

Cost of Melodies is an atmospheric 2D platformer that will test your precision and memory. You wake up in a strange place with an unsettling, piercing melody echoing around you. You must navigate silent environments, solve musical puzzles, and uncover the truth behind your fading hearing. Every mistake comes at a price, and every wrong note will slowly erode your sense of sound. Can you find a way out before everything becomes completely silent?

Gameplay & Controls

Cost of Melodies offers a unique platforming experience with intuitive, yet challenging controls:

• Movement: Use A D to walk and flip your character.
• Jump: Press Space to jump across gaps and over obstacles.
• Grab/Release Objects: Hold down the Enter key to grab nearby objects. Release Enter to put them down. Be careful, as each object type has different weight and characteristics!
  • Small & Medium Objects: You can grab these while walking and jumping, but they'll slow you down. They'll also flip with your character.
  • Large & Heavy Objects: These can only be pushed, never lifted.
  • Vulnerable Objects: They will break after you step on them and then leave their surface.

Objectives & The Price to Pay

Your main goal is to find a way out of this mysterious place. To do so, you must:

• Solve Piano Puzzles: In certain rooms, you'll find a piano. You need to play 4 correct melody sequences to unlock 4 locked doors.
  • Playing the Piano: Use the QWERTYUIOP[] keys as piano keys. You can press multiple keys at once to create harmonies/chords (if indicated by clues).
  • Finding Clues: The correct melody sequences are hidden within Sheets/Notes scattered throughout the environment. These clues may also contain deep narrative insights.
• Manage Your Master Volume: Your master volume is your life. Every time you play a wrong note on the piano, your volume will decrease. If your volume reaches zero, you'll become completely deaf, and it's game over.
• Collect Notes: Your only collectible in this world are the Sheets/Notes. These are crucial for providing melody clues and important narrative pieces. You can review your collected notes in the Piano.

Every choice and mistake you make will determine your fate. There are four possible endings awaiting you:

• Bad Ending: You become deaf, trapped in eternal silence.
• Neutral Ending: You escape, but with damaged hearing.
• Good Ending: You emerge with your hearing largely intact, a harmony you successfully preserved.
• Secret Ending - I've Played This Game Before: You finish the game with full master volume, demonstrating absolute mastery.
